Day 1: Welcome to Cartagena – A Taste of Luxury in Our Vacation Villa
Our adventure began with a warm welcome at our vacation villa (La Dominica) in Getsemani, a testament to Cartagena’s famed hospitality and the luxurious accommodations the city has to offer. With the assistance of our concierge, we settled into our new home, a perfect fusion of colonial elegance and modern amenities.
The concierge provided recommendations for exploring the city, setting the stage for our family adventure in Cartagena.
Day 2: Exploring the Historical Heart – The Walled City and Culinary Gems
The second day was dedicated to Cartagena’s historical core. As we meandered through its cobblestone streets, we were captivated by the vibrant facades and the tales of the past.
Our guided tour through landmarks like the San Felipe de Barajas Castle was an educational journey for the whole family. We also visited Museo de La Inquisicion (Inquisition Museum) and Museo del Oro Zenú (Gold Museum), two musts while in Cartagena, by the way the kids loved them. Although at night we went on a culinary voyage, sampling local delights that showcased the rich flavors of Caribbean cuisine.
Day 3: A Day at Sea – Private Boat Rental to the Rosario Islands
The Caribbean called on our third day, and we answered by renting a private boat to explore the Rosario Islands. This experience was the pinnacle of our family adventure in Cartagena, allowing us to discover secluded beaches, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, and simply bask in the beauty of the sea. The boat rental, arranged by Aldaba Selection through our concierge, provided a day of uninterrupted joy and relaxation for our family, highlighting the natural splendor of the Caribbean.

On day four we took a day trip to El Aviario Nacional, it’s a 40 min car ride from Getsemani, however Aldaba Selection arranged the transportation, it’s a must-visit for families. This avian sanctuary is home to a diverse array of birds and wild species, showcasing the incredible biodiversity of Colombia. The kids were thrilled to see exotic birds up close, making it an educational and exciting outing. The rest of the day was spent enjoying leisure time back at our villa, taking advantage of its amenities. It’s important to highlight that all the animals are rescued and receive exceptional care. Nevertheless, there’s a dedicated program focused on rehabilitating and reintroducing them to the wild. Please remember to bring mosquito repellent for your visit.
